Heavy rains wreak havoc in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, several dead, rescue operations underway

Peshawar/Gilgit (Special Correspondents) – Heavy rains, lightning and flooding in rivers and canals have caused a huge loss of human lives in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan. Rescue operations are underway in the areas affected by the natural disaster, while the victims have appealed to the government for immediate assistance.
Bajaur, Dir and Balakot worst affected
According to the details, the tragic incidents that took place in Bajaur, Dir Lower, and Balakot have saddened the people.
In Tehsil Salarzo (Jabrari), 6 members of the same family died on the spot due to lightning.
In Tehsil Maidan Suri, the roof of a house collapsed due to heavy rain, in which 3 people were killed and 4 were injured.
According to rescue sources, there is a fear that more people may be buried under the debris, for which the search operation is going on rapidly.
Three laborers trapped in flash flood in Balakot, lives saved by timely rescue
Three laborers from Mahandri (Munawar Bela) — Naveedullah, Sajjad, and Ayan Khan — were trapped between two drains due to flash flood. Rescue teams took timely action and safely rescued the three, on which the local population expressed satisfaction.
Several houses destroyed, many families homeless
Several houses have been severely damaged due to the flooding of rivers and drains due to heavy rains. In the affected areas:
Many families have been forced to spend the day and night under the open sky.
Communication systems are facing difficulties in relief operations due to disruption.
The victims are in dire need of food, medical assistance, and temporary shelter.
Appeal to authorities for immediate help
Residents of the affected areas have appealed to the government and relevant agencies to expedite immediate relief operations, provide tents, food and medicines. The public is demanding that their difficulties be reduced by immediate provision of basic facilities.
Rescue operation underway, high alert in the affected areas
