Supreme Court recommends development of guidelines on use of artificial intelligence

 

The Supreme Court has issued a ruling on the use of artificial intelligence in the judicial system.Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has issued an 18-page decision.

The court has recommended the development of guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence.

The Supreme Court ruling stated that ChatGPT and DeepSec can enhance judicial efficiency, and many judges around the world acknowledged the use of AI to assist in decisions.

AI is only an auxiliary ‘tool’, not a substitute for a judge’s decision-making.The decision states that AI should in no way replace full human decision-making autonomy in the judiciary, AI is only to facilitate smart legal research.

According to the Supreme Court’s decision, the Judicial Reforms Committee and the Law and Justice Commission should develop guidelines that should determine the extent to which AI will be used in the judicial system.
