Shoaib Akhtar harshly criticizes the Pakistani team: “This defeat is not due to the players, but to the policies”

Web Desk (August 13, 2025) — The Pakistan cricket team faced defeat in the ODI series against the West Indies after 34 years, on which former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has slammed the team’s policies and management.
After the third and decisive ODI match, Shoaib Akhtar said in his reaction that the defeat was not due to the players’ performance but to wrong decisions and poor team management.
“You can’t spend it in 50 overs, you need performance”
Shoaib Akhtar said that to succeed in the ODI format, it is necessary to include experienced and tested players in every field, including batting, bowling and spin. According to him:
“If quality all-rounders and performers are not included, it will be difficult to complete even 50 overs. There is no spending here, consistency is needed.”
Question on coaching, objection to policy
The former speed star targeted head coach Mike Hesson and said:
“Mike Hesson is good as a T20 coach, but his style in ODIs is incomprehensible.”
He also criticized the fact that the team management is trying to hide it by calling it “rebuilding” after the defeat, while in reality it is a failure of wrong combinations and policies.
“Thank God Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc did not come”
Shoaib Akhtar added in his typical sarcastic style:
“Thank God Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc were not here, otherwise the situation would have been even more exposed.”
Historic victory of West Indies
It should be noted that West Indies have won an ODI series against Pakistan for the first time since November 1991. This victory after 34 years is a big success for the Caribbean team and a serious warning to Pakistan.
