NASA chief-designate Jared Isaacman has made sending humans to Mars his priority.
Billionaire Jared Isaacman, Trump’s nominee to head the US space agency NASA, has appeared before a Senate committee, in which he outlined his future plans and priorities.
He said that he wants to prioritize NASA’s Mars mission, and Trump would prefer to send American astronauts to Mars
.Although NASA’s “Artemis” moon mission was announced during Trump’s first term, he has since openly mused about going straight to Mars, raising concerns that China or others could fill the void on the lunar surface.Elon Musk – the world’s richest person and head of SpaceX – has long had his eye on a human mission to Mars, and his concept gained more attention when he became a key Trump ally and advisor.
“We will inevitably have the capabilities to determine the scientific, economic and national security benefits of returning to the Moon and maintaining a presence on the lunar surface,” he said.Elon Musk founded his successful space company with the idea of making humanity multiplanetary.
