Saudi Arabia executes 21 Pakistanis amid record death penalties for foreign workers

21 Pakistanis out of 100 activists were hanged amid Saudi Arabia’s increase in the death penalty for those sentenced to death in extreme cases. According to data shared by the rights group, the number of executions this year is nearly three times higher than in the previous two years, with 34 foreigners executed annually. .The latest execution was reportedly carried out last weekend in the Najran region, where a Yemeni national was sentenced to death for drug trafficking, as the death toll of foreign workers reached 101.Rights organizations have expressed concern over the alarming trend, with the European-Saudi Organization for Human Rights (ESOHR) citing this year’s figures as the highest. The use of the death penalty has been criticized by several groups. In an effort to modernize its image and attract international investment, Saudi Arabia is facing scrutiny over its human rights record.Last year, the country ranked third in the world with nearly 37 million executions.
