Rains continue to intensify, NDMA Chairman warns of cloudburst

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Chairman Lt. Gen. Inam Haider has expressed concerns about more cloudbursts and heavy rains in the country in the next few weeks, which could lead to a repeat of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-like emergency.

The NDMA Chairman said that there is a high possibility of cloudbursts in northern Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan in the next 3 to 4 weeks. He has directed the relevant agencies to remain alert and ensure effective safety measures.

Lt. Gen. Inam Haider said that the public should also monitor the weather conditions and take safety measures to be safe from any possible emergency.

Disaster in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 328 deaths
It should be noted that in recent days, 328 people have died and dozens have been injured due to rains, floods, landslides and lightning strikes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while several houses and infrastructure have been severely damaged.

A few weeks ago, heavy rains and landslides due to cloudbursts also occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan, in which precious lives were lost.

After this warning from the NDMA, all the relevant agencies are busy in emergency preparations so that effective strategies can be adopted to deal with possible threats.
