Punjab Government Steps Up as Heatwave Grips Region — Emergency Measures in Full Swing

Lahore: With a severe heatwave forecasted to continue across Punjab until June 13, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) and the Punjab government are taking swift and proactive steps to safeguard public health and well-being.

Daytime temperatures are expected to remain 4 to 7°C above normal, particularly in southern districts such as Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Multan. The PDMA has reported Sargodha as the hottest city today at 47°C, while cities including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Multan saw temperatures near 45°C.

Full Emergency Preparedness Activated

On the special instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, all government departments have been placed on high alert. Special heatwave emergency counters are being set up at hospitals across the province, ensuring quick response to any heat-related emergencies.

“Protecting the people of Punjab is our top priority,” said PDMA DG Irfan Ali Kathia, while sharing that comprehensive arrangements are being made, especially in vulnerable regions like Cholistan, where clean drinking water supply is being ensured.

Health & Safety at the Forefront

The Health Department has been directed to maintain stockpiles of essential medicines and ensure 24/7 availability of medical staff to treat heatstroke and dehydration cases. Public awareness campaigns are also underway to guide citizens on precautionary measures, including staying hydrated, avoiding outdoor activities during peak hours, and caring for the elderly and children.

Community Support and Resilience

With climate challenges becoming more frequent, Punjab’s quick action reflects a strong commitment to public safety and climate resilience. The government urges citizens to stay informed, stay safe, and look out for one another during this time.
