
Omar Ayub vows to repeal 26th constitutional amendment if PTI returns to power

Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and PTI leader Omar Ayub has announced that his party would abolish the 26th constitutional amendment upon returning to power.Speaking to the media outside the Peshawar High Court, Ayub criticized the government for registering numerous “fake cases” against PTI workers and leaders. He stated that PTI has no communication with the government and is striving for the release of all political prisoners.He also highlighted Pakistan’s economic challenges, mentioning that people are selling their properties to leave the country, while youth are paying hefty sums to seek opportunities abroad.He accused the government of failing to uphold the rule of law, adding that even the IMF delegation has expressed concerns over judicial matters.Ayub announced that PTI would launch a strong movement after Ramazan and reaffirmed that the 26th constitutional amendment would be scrapped once they regain power.Bail Extension in May 9 CasesMeanwhile, an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Lahore extended Omar Ayub’s interim bail in May 9 cases until March 14.During the hearing, Ayub’s lawyer, Rana Madassir, submitted a plea for exemption from appearance, citing his client’s engagement in a hearing at the Peshawar High Court. The court accepted the plea and summoned Ayub for the next hearing while extending his interim bail.
