Hundreds of Google employees laid off overnight

Google laid off hundreds of employees overnight.

Alphabet’s Google laid off hundreds of employees from its Platforms and Devices unit yesterday, according to unofficial media reports.

The employees worked on Android software, Pixel phones and the Chrome browser.

The Information, citing a Google spokesperson, questioned whether most of the layoffs were aimed at increasing operational efficiency.
