England batsman Joe Root has set several historic records with his brilliant batting against India.

Manchester: England’s veteran batsman Joe Root has set several new records with his brilliant performance in the ongoing fourth Test match against India at Old Trafford.
Root played a brilliant innings of 150 runs to surpass Australian great Ricky Ponting and become the second highest run-scorer in Test cricket. Now Joe Root’s total number of Test runs has reached 13,409, while the top of this list is Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar with 15,921 runs.
34-year-old Joe Root took the crease in the 39th over when England’s score had fallen to 197 for 2. He took control of the innings with his steady batting and strengthened the team’s position by the end of the second day. He continued his impressive form on the third day and put England in a better position.
In his innings, Joe Root surpassed several great batsmen, including Rahul Dravid (13,288), Jacques Kallis (13,289) and Ricky Ponting (13,378).
This is his second century in this series and his 38th century in his Test career, which brings him level with Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara. In terms of the number of centuries, only Ricky Ponting (41), Jacques Kallis (45) and Sachin Tendulkar (51) are ahead of him.
In addition, Joe Root has broken the historical record of scoring the most centuries against India on England’s grounds. He completed his ninth century against India on his home ground, while Don Bradman had scored 8 centuries against England at home.
