Elon Musk’s ‘X’ reacts strongly to Modi government’s order to block social media accounts

Elon Musk’s social media platform ‘X’ has expressed strong reservations over the Modi government’s order to block more than 2,355 social media accounts in India.
X’s Global Government Affairs team revealed in a statement issued on its X account that on July 3, 2025, the Indian government had ordered the blocking of these accounts under Section 69A of the IT Act, which included the global news agencies Reuters and Reuters World.
The statement said that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology demanded immediate action within one hour without any justification and asked all the accounts to be blocked until further notice. If X did not comply with this order, there was a risk of action.
Later, due to public outcry, the Indian government requested the restoration of the Reuters accounts.
X has expressed deep concern over the ongoing press censorship in India and said it is seeking to exercise all legal powers in this regard.
Furthermore, due to the ban on X under Indian laws, the company has appealed to affected users to seek legal action against these government orders through the Indian courts.
