Bangladesh court issues arrest warrant for former British minister Tulip Siddique

A Bangladeshi court has issued an arrest warrant for Tulip Siddique, the niece of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid and former British Minister for Economic Affairs.

According to British media, Tulip Siddique is facing corruption charges, including the acquisition of a plot in the diplomatic area of Dhaka and an alleged fraud of 4 billion pounds in a nuclear deal.

The charges relate to the government of her aunt Hasina Wajid.

Tulip Siddique, who is still a member of the British Parliament, resigned from her post in January 2025 after the corruption allegations came to light. However, she has called all the charges against her baseless and political vendetta.

Her lawyers say that Tulip Siddique has never acquired any land in Bangladesh or benefited anyone. They maintain that the case is politically motivated.
