Trump sentencing in hush money case delayed indefinitely

New York Supreme Court Justice Joan Murchin has postponed the sentencing of President-elect Donald Trump in the Stormy Daniels hush money case. The delay is indefinite, and it’s unclear whether the case can be dismissed entirely. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg agreed to stay the sentence Trump was found guilty of in May 2024 on 34 counts. Daniels is charged with concealing payments.. Originally, Trump’s sentencing was delayed because of his status as a presidential candidate and the US Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity. Now, as Trump prepares. Due to take office in January, legal protocol prevents a sitting president from being punished in a way that could interfere with official duties. If fired, Trump could face sentencing as soon as his term ends in January 2029.However, Trump’s legal team is pushing to overturn the conviction entirely, a move that DA Bragg has opposed. Judge Murchan has ordered Trump to file a motion for dismissal by December. 2, with Bragg must respond by December 9.
