PTA extends deadline for non-registered VPNs registration

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has decided to extend the deadline for registration of unregistered VPNs by two weeks. According to PTA sources, the decision was taken during a review meeting following the Home Ministry’s directive to block unregistered VPNs. That VPN registration deadline is set for November 30, after which a crackdown on unregistered VPNs will begin from December.1. A successful VPN blocking trial has already been conducted, with another trial planned in the coming days, according to sources in the PTA, to register unregistered VPN holders before the shutdown. Enough time is being given. Over 20,000 companies and freelancers have successfully registered their VPNs. Those who are yet to register will have to fill an online form that includes CNIC, company registration details and taxpayer status.
