Judicial affairs Pakistan’s internal matter: UK

London; British Foreign Minister David Lemmy has said that judicial matters are Pakistan’s internal matter, but there is a need to uphold international obligations and protect the rights to a fair trial and fundamental freedoms. Members of the British Parliament wrote about the PTI chief’s detention and the political situation in Pakistan. The British Foreign Minister said that approval of the constitutional amendment is a parliamentary matter for Pakistan: “According to our information, Pakistan has no intention to try the PTI founder in military courts.” We are concerned about political rivalries and restrictions on freedom of expression. Freedom of expression and protest without any intimidation is the basis of democracy. He stressed the importance of an independent judiciary and directed the Foreign Minister to meet the British Parliament members who had written the letter after returning from Pakistan.
