New Head Coach Mike Hesson Backs Babar, Rizwan as Pakistan Gears Up for T20I Series Against Bangladesh

Lahore – Pakistan’s newly appointed head coach, Mike Hesson, has kicked off his tenure on a positive note by extending strong support to senior players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, emphasizing their continued importance in Pakistan’s white-ball future.

Speaking at a press conference at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium ahead of the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, Hesson described the duo as “top-class players” and crucial to the team’s strategy. “Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are integral to our white-ball plans. They’re world-class, and both are committed to improving further,” he noted.

Both players were previously rested during the T20I series against New Zealand as selectors explored new talent. Rizwan was also replaced as T20I captain after just two series, with Salman Ali Agha taking over leadership duties.

A New Era Begins

Hesson, 50, brings with him years of international coaching experience and a reputation for blending tactical awareness with modern, aggressive cricket. “We want to play aggressive cricket—but smart cricket too,” he said. “Our players are clear on the brand of cricket we want to pursue, and that clarity is already showing in the training sessions.”

The upcoming series against Bangladesh, beginning May 28, marks Hesson’s first official assignment as head coach. All three matches will be played at the iconic Gaddafi Stadium on May 28, May 30, and June 1.

Preparations are in full swing, with players undergoing intense fitness drills, net practice, and fielding sessions. Those involved in the PSL 10 final were given a brief rest to recharge before the international challenge begins.

Hesson praised Bangladesh as a competitive and disciplined side. “They are a quality team and have earned our full respect. We’re focused and ready to start strong.”
