Canada cabinet minister Gould says she is running to replace Trudeau

Canadian Cabinet Minister Karina Gould said Saturday she will enter the race to replace Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as leader of the ruling Liberal Party.Gould, 37, has become the third serious candidate to announce his candidacy. She is currently the House Leader of the Liberals, responsible for advancing legislation through Parliament.Gould will face former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney. The new leader is to be announced on March 9.Trudeau, under pressure from lawmakers over the party’s poll showings, announced on January 6 that he would step down after more than nine years in office.
