Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Hafeezur Rehman says that today it was found for the first time that the internet shutdown is wrong.A meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology was held under the chairmanship of Senator Palusha Khan, in which the Ministry of IT and PTA gave a briefing on the disruption of the Internet.Speaking on the occasion, Chairman PTA has said that PTA receives 500 complaints of social media content every day, PTA requests the social media platforms to block the content.He said that social media platforms block 80% of content.Senator Kamran Murtaza said that where is it written in the act to block the internet in a particular area.Member Legal Ministry of IT said that no specific area is clearly written in the Act.Chairman PTA says that it is written in the rules that the Ministry of Home Affairs can give instructions to the PTA.Senator Kamran Murtaza said that how can you block the internet if it is not written in the law.On which Chairman PTA said that if this is wrong, why has the government stopped the internet from us for 9 years, I can tell the date and time when the internet was stopped.Senator Kamran Murtaza said that we are not the government, we are the parliament.On which Chairman PTA said to Kamran Murtaza that all of you have been in the government at one time or another.Chairman PTI said that the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Home Affairs can give the final legal opinion in this regard. Social media apps were closed many times on the orders of the Supreme Court and the High Court. Was the closure wrong? Internet and social media applications are closed on the orders of the Supreme Court.Secretary IT and Telecom said that it has been many years since the rules were made.Senator Kamran Murtaza said that can the rules go beyond the Act? If there is a Supreme Court decision, has the Ministry filed a revision?
