Short-term inflation decelerates to 3.71pc in Pakistan

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, weekly inflation as measured by the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) fell to 3.71 percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis during the week ended December 12. PBS) reported on Friday. On a weekly basis, the inflation rate however saw a marginal increase of 0.07 percent for the combined consumption groups during the week under review as compared to the previous week.The SPI of the lowest consumption group up to Rs 17,732 saw an increase of 0.03 percent and rose to 317.28 points from last week’s 317.20 points. SPI for consumption groups up to Rs 22,888 from Rs 17,732; 22,889-29,517 rupees; 29,518-44,175 and above Rs 44,175 gained 0.05 percent, 0.07 percent, 0.07 percent and 0.08 percent respectively.As it was recorded at 323.14 points against 322.91 points respectively. Weekly SPI with base year 2015-16 = 100 covers 17 urban centers and 51 essential commodities for all expenditure groups. 51 commodities during the week. Out of 18 (35.29%) commodity prices increased, 11 (21.57%) commodity prices decreased and 22 (43.14%) Commodity prices remained stable.Commodities which recorded major decline in average prices on weekly basis include Onion (3.58%), Tomato (3.10%), Egg (2.14%), Garlic (1.58%), Dal Chana (1.19%). Rice Ari-6/9 (0.75%), Dal Mash (0.59%), Wheat Flour (0.58%) and Firewood (0.16%). It includes chicken (3.80%), vegetable ghee 2.5 kg (2.27%), banana (1.99%), potato (1.93%), mustard oil (1.07%). ), cooking oil 5 liters (0.98%), washing soap (0.80%), vegetable ghee 1 kg (0.52%), cooked dal(0.40%), energy saver (0.31%), LPG (0.28%) and cigarettes (0.26%). Among the commodities that saw a decline on year-on-year basis were wheat flour (35.88%). Chilli Powder (20.00%), Diesel (10.77%), Petrol (10.33%), Dal Masoor (10.26%), Onion (8.92%), Rice Basmati Totti (7.46%), Electricity Charges for Q1 (6.96%) , sugar (6.52%), bread (5.99%) and tea packet (5.09%).
