Senate unanimously passes National Forensic Agency Bill 2024

The Senate on Friday unanimously passed the National Forensic Agency Bill, 2024 with certain amendments. Law and Justice Minister Azam Nazir Tarar, on behalf of the Home Minister, introduced the bill in the House. Transformed into a full-fledged, independent agency to enhance forensic capabilities across Pakistan. Sharing the details, Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar saidThat the establishment of existing conventional forensic labs and digital forensic lab by NFA will also provide services to all provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and public/private forensics. He said that the establishment of an independent NFA in Pakistan is necessary to tackle the challenges arising from the existing fragmented forensic services. The minister said that there is currently a forensic laboratory in LahoreWhich was established by the current Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in 2010. The laboratory was already overloaded and it was the need of the hour that all the provincial governments should also involve in setting up such labs in their respective provinces, he added.
