Religious scholars rack their brains to bring about seminary reforms

On Monday, an important meeting was held in Islamabad regarding the registration and reforms of Madrasahs. Addressing the participants, Director General of Religious Education Ghulam Qamar said that it is a unanimous decision that all schools of thought will register themselves with the Directorate General of Religious Education. Acknowledging the role of madrasas in educating children from the poorer sections of the society, the Director General said that 18,600 madrasas have registered themselves.. Federal Information Minister Ataullah Tarar, Religious Affairs Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Education Minister Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui and Pakistan Ulema Council attended the ceremony. Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi also addressed. Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi visited Jamia Ashrafieh Lahore and met the patron-general of the Federation of Schools, Maulana Fazal Rahim Ashrafi.
