Azam Swati, Asad Umar among Top PTI leaders named in JIT report for inciting May 9 violence

A bombshell report by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has named Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf bigwigs for the May 9 violence, the darkest hour when the country’s civil-military installations were attacked. Many close allies of Imran Khan have been named for mass violence and vandalism. which erupted after the arrest of the former prime minister. Violence, which included clashes, arson, and damage to property, in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust caseIt happened after paramilitary forces detained Khan. The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC), presided over by Justice Arshad Javed, is holding several hearings. Riot-related cases. During the recent session, the judge criticized PTI’s lawyers for their lack of preparation and directed them to suggest a new date for the hearing. After the arguments, the ATC court adjourned the hearing of the case till January 14, 2024. The JIT report specifically named senior PTI figures, including Azam. Swati, Asad Umar and Hafiz Farhat Abbas accused of inciting violence. Senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi and 20 others have already been charged with organizing the May 9 riots. More than 2,000 people have been arrested so far, and cases have been filed against all party members whose witnesses are expected to testify at the next hearing.
